Work with Your Hands – and Engage Your Mind

A workshop about energy, state of mind, and why creating something with our hands is good for us.

Have you ever noticed how you can lose track of time when you’re absorbed in a practical activity? Or how doing something can give you renewed energy, even when you were feeling tired?

That’s no coincidence. What we do with our hands also affects our brain, attention, and state of mind. And we can learn to use this connection more consciously.

Whether you’re building a carport, knitting a sweater, repairing a bicycle, or gardening is less important. What matters is what the activity does for you.

In this workshop, we explore how practical and creative activities can help us regulate our state of mind. Sometimes we need to slow down and find calm; at other times, we need more energy, focus, or motivation to take action.

Topics we’ll explore include:

  • Why our energy levels and state of mind are constantly changing.
  • How we can become accustomed to high levels of stress and lose touch with what it feels like to be calm.
  • Why working with our hands can influence our mental state.
  • How to choose activities that help us either relax or generate renewed energy.
  • How to become better at recognising our body’s signals and consciously shifting mental gears.

A challenge to Take Home

Every participant will receive a small, practical challenge to take home, offering an opportunity to put the workshop’s ideas into practice.

No special skills, experience, or preparation are required. The challenge simply provides a chance to experience firsthand how working with your hands can influence your state of mind.

The workshop lasts 45–60 minutes and combines psychological insights, relatable examples, and active participation.
